Program Innovations

The Joint Master's Degree Program "Techno-economic Systems in Management" is offered by the Department of Business Administration of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA) and the Department of Agribusiness and Supply Chain Management of the Agricultural University of Athens (AUA). The cooperating departments were founded in 2019 and since then have recorded a dynamic course in the field of higher education. The program seeks cooperation and complementarity between two of the oldest universities in Greece with a significant number of graduates from various scientific fields.

Techno-economic Systems in Management is an interdisciplinary knowledge area that combines management and economic science with technology and information systems. The continuous evolution of digital transformation in the field of business creates increasing demand for executives with the ability to be efficient and effective in a constantly digitized work environment. This can be obtained by:

• Specialized training of administrative-financial executives, capable to design, develop and manage digital systems that will allow for the optimization of business processes.
  
• Specialized training of engineers in financial and administrative areas for the correct decision-making in the organization, control and planning of business operations.
  

The systemic approach to the study of techno-economic systems is required because today no single unit (enterprise or organization), or innovation by itself, could express all technological changes. Such an approach allows for interaction between all actors of the economic system.

The program is oriented towards the education and participation of students in basic and applied research, through strategic partnerships with businesses and organizations in the primary, secondary and tertiary sectors, as well as academic partnerships in the context of research and development projects. In addition, the assignments that the students will be asked to prepare constitute a continuous engagement with the research process and the utilization of bibliographic sources to investigate methods, frameworks of analysis and good practices. In the last 2 semesters of studies, students will attend the courses "Quantitative Methods" and “Software Engineering and Data Processing” in order to be properly prepared for writing their research paper. Finally, the program is oriented towards publicity and dissemination of research results through participation in scientific conferences and the publication of original works in scientific journals.

A modern master's degree program must have multiple effects: on knowledge, skills, individual behaviors, social interactions, economic becoming. For this reason, the main objectives of the "Techno-economic Management Systems" program are as follows:

• Interdisciplinary educational approach (emphasis on the technological component of administrative science) and specialization in the study of Administration, Economy, Technology and Information, through the study of real problems of the business sector.
  
• Creation of highly intelligent scientists - the professionals of the future, who, as citizens and business executives, will have techniques and skills for decision-making in the current globalized and highly competitive economic environment.
  
• Development of critical thinking and creative action, with an emphasis on international developments, to deal with the problems of businesses in Greece and abroad (through providing knowledge in a unified, comprehensible, attractive and parameterized way).
  
• Preparation of students/people who will make a difference in the labor market, both in the private and public sectors in Greece and abroad. This innovative effort familiarizes the student with new technologies and provides the interconnection of knowledge subjects as well as the acquisition of techno-economic skills.
  
• Development of interpersonal skills that will be achieved through assignments, participation in conferences, research, analysis, and publication of articles in scientific journals.
